The Core Difference
The biggest difference comes down to results:
- Laser hair removal reduces hair
- Electrolysis permanently removes hair
Laser uses light energy to target pigment in the hair, which can slow growth—but it does not reliably destroy every hair follicle.
Electrolysis treats each hair individually at the root, permanently disabling its ability to grow back.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Laser hair removal uses concentrated light to target dark pigment in the hair follicle.
Because it relies on pigment, laser treatments:
- Work best on dark hair and lighter skin
- Are less effective on blonde, gray, or red hair
- May require ongoing maintenance sessions
In some cases, especially on the face or hormonal areas, laser can actually stimulate additional hair growth instead of reducing it.
How Electrolysis Works
Electrolysis uses a fine probe inserted into each hair follicle to deliver a controlled current that destroys the hair at the root.
This method:
